"The ghost of Annie Palmer may well be the guiding spirit at 284 Main Street, Point Arena, current home of Point Arena CITYART. A prim young lady at the turn of the nineteenth century, housed fashionably, yet modestly in this small Greek Revival, Annie ended her teaching career at the Methodist School on the Point Arena Rancheria by murdering her lover in "spectacular fashion."

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

To enhance the artistic flavor and cultural dynamic of our community

. by providing a physical location and a psychological and intellectual environment supporting both emerging and established artists

. by encouraging working and emerging artists to develop and discover avenues of expression through the creation, formation and participation of community exhibitions.

. CITYART serves as a vehicle for personal and collective expressions: a resource acknowledging diverse exhibits: a place devoted to furthering education in the arts.

Part of the Point Arena CITYART Statement of Purpose says, "to enhance the cultural dynamic of our community…by providing an environment in which artists may exhibit their work…and to encourage community exhibitions." Idealistic words!

But, that is really happening.

Our community has responded with enthusiasm. The building housing CITYART on Main Street was gutted and renovated by volunteers with spirit. Each year's growth has demonstrated the strength of and the need for CITYART’s place in the community. For instance, in April, grade school children did a fascinating exhibition, "At the Source", a Garcia watershed event. This year CITYART awarded the second annual scholarships to two graduating seniors at Point Arena High School.

YOUR SUPPORT IS NEEDED AND WILL BE DEEPLY APPRECIATED!
